Macy’s has appointed Barbie Cameron, a 37-year veteran of the famed retailer, chief stores officer.
Cameron has been serving in the role on an interim basis since August. Prior to that, her title was senior vice president and Eastern regional director of stores.
As chief stores officer, Cameron oversees all retail operations and spearheads initiatives to modernize Macy’s as well as to improve the shopping environment and customer experience.
Cameron started her career at Macy’s in 1987 as a sales manager and advanced to buyer, assistant store manager, then store manager before holding a variety of corporate leadership positions.
She now reports to Adrian Mitchell, who has been Macy’s chief operating officer and chief financial officer since March 2023.
Last year, Macy’s announced plans to shut 150 stores within three years; in January, it listed the first 66 locations to close.
