One canceled flight and one turned-around flight and I’m still making my way to Vicenza for the January fair
The VicenzaOro January fair opens tomorrow, which means a first look at the latest Italian treasures for 2016. As I write this, I’m midair on American Airlines flight no. 728, en route back to Philadelphia because of a passenger illness. This, is after my first flight—British Airways flight no. 66—was canceled. Hurray for travel!
I am looking forward to scouring the VicenzaOro fair for new pieces and vendors who do not typically exhibit elsewhere. This show continues to be a good indicator of what jewelry directions we might see more of in the year ahead, and retailers—including Lisa Glynn Vinicur, owner of Diane Glynn Jewelry in Jenkintown, Pa.—still rely on it as a source of can’t-find-it-anywhere-else styles. (Lisa is on my flight, as is Fran Morrone, sales director at Quality Gold, both of whom kept me laughing loudly as one travel calamity after another occurred.) Interestingly enough, I met these two last year when our flight was delayed. Ladies, I like you both very much, but if we don’t see other again on travel day, let’s take that as a good sign.
Once I do get to the jewelry halls, which will reflect last year’s well-thought-out floor redesign, I look forward to seeing brands and independent artists alike—especially considering that yellow gold is enjoying a resurgence.
