You will hear a lot about heart jewelry as Valentine’s Day fast approaches—the shape is ubiquitous this time of year, though as a treasured piece of jewelry, it can be everlasting—so why not look to a brand that has the icon right in its name?
Lionheart is a New York–based brand founded Joy Haugaard and Sarah Mahsa, two sisters who moved to NYC from their native Denmark during some of a person’s most formative years—their teens. As New York is known to do, the city put its spell on the sisters, lending inspiration to what would become their brand, named for the Astrid Lindgren’s The Brothers Lionheart, a children’s fantasy novel that largely centers on death and the afterlife.
Why yes, the brand does have heart jewelry as a part of its offerings—a selection that is especially irresistible, much of it pictured here—but that is only the start. Combine influences from Scandinavian design and New York’s iconic vintage sights, and what you get are crisp art deco interpretations with modern, in-vogue touches.
“We are a playful brand, and we pour our love and soul into creating pieces that become someone’s heirloom and treasure. We fall in love with each piece, and if we don’t—they don’t make the cut,” said Mahsa on the brand’s website. “Many of our pieces truly are inspired by our home, our family, and art all around us. We are unapologetically vivacious, and we believe the brand exudes just that. The point is to have fun expressing who you are.”
The pieces are made in New York and Italy, in 14k or 18k Italian gold, with ethically sourced diamonds and gemstones. Prices range from $320 to just over $13,000.
