The owner of Rios Jewelry Store, Wilmington, Calif., shot two would-be robbers
yesterday, one of whom died, according to reports
from the Los Angeles Times and KTLA-TV.
The Los Angeles Police Department said four suspects entered the store
Wednesday evening and were met by the armed jeweler. One suspect is still at
large, the reports said.
The Jewelers’ Security Alliance’s Manual of Jewelry Security strongly
recommends that jewelers not keep guns in their stores, noting that, although
there are exceptions, “it is common for a jeweler who does resist to be shot
and killed.”
