Spend any time by the water and you might find it a challenge not to be inspired by your surroundings. Jewelers know how captivating the sea is—a good number of them have ocean-themed designs to prove it.
One of the latest nautical-influenced collections is Prism, from Katey Walker, who is based in the Connecticut River Valley, an area with a shipbuilding heritage. The jewelry in it offers a take on deck prisms—faceted glass meant to catch light from the sun and reflect it down to levels below. With this seafaring inspiration and their white topaz, diamonds, and pearls, the Prism pieces are ideal for all of this summer’s travels.
“I have been inspired by all things of the sea and am constantly surrounded by sailboats where I live,” says Walker. “The form and function of the deck prisms on the ships is what inspired me from a design point of view.”
The designer chose white topaz—which feels light and airy, perfect for such an ode—because it is the birthstone of her twin sons. “I believe it brings good fortune,” Walker says.
The collection is available now.
