The Jewelers Vigilance Committee will honor Jewelers’ Security Alliance president John Kennedy (pictured) with its Stanley Schechter Award at its annual January luncheon, which—in deference to COVID-19 restrictions—will be held virtually for the first time.
The Stanley Schechter Award, named for the former JVC executive board member, honors those who have raised industry ethics.
The event will take place on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, at 2 p.m.
Kennedy has headed the JSA since 1992. Before that, he was the assistant commissioner and deputy general counsel for the New York City Department of Investigation. Kennedy is the coauthor of JSA’s Manual of Jewelry Security, the only published book on the subject. In 2008, the American Gem Society gave Kennedy its lifetime achievement award, and subsequently named a law enforcement award after him.
He talked about his background earlier this year on an episode of JCK’s podcast, The Jewelry District.
The JSA is holding its annual luncheon around the same time as JVC’s, also virtually.
Registration for the luncheon can be found here.
