If you successfully launch a fine jewelry line, at some point you’re going to add a collection of engagement rings and wedding bands to your portfolio. Current customers become brides-to-be overnight. Custom orders start to pour in via Instagram. Married customers decide to reset their diamonds to mark a milestone anniversary. The segue is inevitable.
Seven years was the sweet spot for Theresa Harper Bruno, the Mountain Brook, Ala.–based designer behind Jordan Alexander. With Engaged, the new bridal collection she debuted this month, she’s created 13 styles that alternate between nature-girl ethereal, and streamlined and geometric, all united by bitingly clean, crisp metalwork—and the kind of edgy-luxe details that Bruno is known for. Those glistening caged baroque pearls spilling out of the model’s mouth in our September-October issue? All her.
If you’re not already a fan, you can read our interview with Bruno, also in the September-October issue, to get to know her better. As for her bridal entrée, the designer says it’s a new concept that’s still evolving.
“My design style leans more minimal, incorporating contrasting elements, like stone color and finishing, and my work is usually substantial in look and feel,” says Bruno. “With that said, I wanted this collection to have masculine and feminine qualities, and many of the pieces can be worn by either [gender]. I like to think it’s a nice marriage of the sophistication of the Jordan Alexander collection and edginess of Andrew Harper.” (Andrew Harper is Bruno’s diffusion line comprised of pieces done in leather, silver, 14k gold, and pearls.)
“I also like to think there’s a message of empowerment in each design,” says Bruno. “I feel stronger when I wear my pieces and think most of my clients would agree.”
Engaged by Jordan Alexander is currently carried at Bruno’s brick-and-mortar store, JA Collections, in Birmingham, Ala., and is available for immediate delivery elsewhere, just in time for holiday proposals.
