As depictions of transformation and rebirth, butterflies are powerful symbols, full stop. They’re even more relevant as we emerge from the acute stage of the pandemic.
Perhaps that’s why so many jewelers looked to the delicate creatures for inspiration as they worked on their 2022 collections—or so the plethora of butterfly motifs seen at the jewelry shows in Las Vegas would suggest.
Not only is the butterfly perfectly suited to this moment in jewelry, it’s also perfectly suited to colored stone or enamel designs. The creature’s kaleidoscopic patterns lend themselves well to multicolored stone combinations or varied applications of enamel.
Dallas Prince, a longtime Design Collective exhibitor, showed a handful of new butterfly-inspired styles at JCK, and explained her “obsession” with the creature in a way sure to resonate with most of her contemporaries.
“Butterflies are little messengers of beauty that can be brought to life in artwork and especially jewelry,” Prince tells JCK. “Their life is short, so I help them live on through my customers. They bring happiness to everyone that sees them.” 🦋
