Brilliant zircon is my favorite gem, so it was natural for me to covet a large cocoa-colored zircon ring at a trade show years ago that ultimately went to a good home—just not my own. Fate didn’t intend for it to land in my jewelry box, so I chalked it up to the gem that got away. But last week at JCK LUXURY I met a new brown zircon that made me wonder if it was the reason I couldn’t bring home the first one. Enter Eichhorn Gems’ delicious selection of powder blue, dusty rose, and (my favorite) mocha brown zircons sold as loose stones. There were two stones in particular that I admired, and the smaller and juicier looking one (near my fingertips in the picture and video below) subliminally begged me to buy it. Foul temptress! A 6 ct.-plus round-shape stone flush with brilliant facets sparkled on my hand with the light force of every single sequin ever sewn onto a Las Vegas performer’s costume. I resisted the urge to buy it, but like the first zircon in my memory, I suspect the image will linger, at least until I decide whether to take the plunge. Eichhorn, is it still available?!
Loose zircons start at $130 per ct. See the brilliance of it in video by clicking on the photo.
