A funny thing happens when you’re not busy snapping photos of jewelry and posting them to your Instagram account: You pay attention to what everyone else is doing.
Now, I’m not saying I don’t take the time to scroll through my feed and double-tap on the beautiful pictures posted by the accounts I follow—I probably spend too much time doing that. But being away from Las Vegas this time of year, those ‘grams are perused with less of a casual interest, and more of a fierce, investigative approach: I must know what’s going on!

So instead of, “Wow, that ring is amazing [double-taps],” it’s “Wow, that ring is amazing, I wonder how many other people saw it and if they got other angles or styled it differently, etc.”
I’ve noticed patterns where I may not have necessarily noticed them before—pastel colors are making waves, and I’ve heard murmurs about a crazy diamond watch (which I was able to spot in some Instagram Stories, and therefore am not able to share here)—and I’ve very much enjoyed viewing the show through the eyes of some of the industry’s best: people I admire and trust who are sharing the most amazing finds.

Because I don’t have a personal horse in this race (i.e., signing on to see how many likes I got on that last post—though it doesn’t really matter, does it?), Instagram is a whole new world of curiosity and exploration.
Maybe this “Vegas from the couch” isn’t such a bad trip to take, after all.
