JCK Jewelry Agenda: Week Of Oct. 9

Share

Fly-fishing, firepits, friends, and faceted gems—what could be better? An important conversation—make that many conversations—kicks off on Oct. 14 in Park City, Utah, where Jewelers Mutual is hosting its inaugural weekend-long leadership retreat at the St. Regis Deer Valley Resort. That’s the headliner this week for sure, but we’ve picked out a few other choice fall happenings to add to your calendar. Also, Oct. 10 is Indigenous Peoples’ Day—if you have the day off, enjoy!

London’s prestigious art and design fair returns to Berkeley Square after two years of online-only action. The jewelry lineup includes two gallerists well-known to JCK editors: Valery Demure of Objet d’Emotion will reveal an impressive roster of international contemporary designers, including Moksh (India), Melanie Georgacopoulos, Francesca Villa, and Emmanuelle Zysman, and Elisabetta Cipriani, who will debut her second collaboration with the Italian artist Giuseppe Penone at the fair. High jewelry exhibitors are Glenn Spiro, Boghossian, and Neha Dani, and David Morris, whose jewels make frequent cameos in James Bond films, joins PAD for the first time this year.

At Jewelers Mutual’s inaugural leadership conference, intended to be an annual affair, you might bump into JCK editor-in-chief Victoria Gomelsky, who will be speaking on a panel titled “The Path of Influence” on Oct. 16 at 10:15 a.m. (PT). Moderated by Emili Vesilind of JM’s the Zing Report (and former JCK senior editor), the conversation here is a heady one that asks, “How might the dawn of Web3 and the metaverse upend or reshape influence in jewelry and fashion?” Also on the agenda: keynote speakers such as Paul Schneider, CEO of Twist Online, and Tirath Kamdar, eBay’s GM of luxury. (But don’t worry, the trap shooting outings are optional!)

This one’s for you, designers: HRD Antwerp, considered a foremost authority on diamond grading and education in Europe, is holding a jewelry design competition in collaboration with CIBJO (the World Jewellery Confederation) and VicenzaOro. Entrants are being asked to adhere to a theme of “peace” across three categories: diamond jewelry, gemstone jewelry, and accessories. The winner of each category can count on the actual production of the piece of jewelry they designed and will become a member of the HRD community with all benefits included. In a statement, HRD Antwerp CEO Ellen Joncheere said, “We want to be an incubator for jewelry design and create opportunities for new talent,” and she also noted that the U.S. is typically underrepresented among its typical pool of candidates, making this a great opportunity for an emerging designer to be recognized on a global scale. Submit your entry here (it’s free) by Oct. 15. The final winners will be announced at a red carpet event on Jan. 23, 2023.
