Doha International Diamond & Gem Conference: Jan. 29–31 (in person)

More than 200 visitors from 30 countries are expected at the inaugural Doha International Diamond & Gem Conference (DIDGC) at the Ned, a private club in Qatar’s capital city. In light of the structural changes in the supply chain and evolving consumer preferences, this gathering of the diamond and colored gemstone trade’s major stakeholders, governments, and companies offers a platform for participants to challenge conventional thinking and discuss new strategies to develop, advance, and grow the industry.

“Unapologetically Iris: The Collection of Iris Apfel,” an online auction featuring the legendary style icon’s flair for fashion, accessories, and interior design, will be open for bidding from Jan. 28 to Feb. 13. “Dubbed ‘the matriarch of maximalism’ by the BBC after her death last March at the age of 102, Apfel was renowned for her flamboyant fashion and vibrant accessories, most notably her oversize eyewear,” writes JCK’s Annie Davidson Watson, noting that colorful bangles, highly embellished necklaces, turquoise jewels, and, of course, eyeglasses are among Apfel’s personal possessions up for auction.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for three days beginning Saturday, the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers will be home to established designers as well as newcomers—it’s Melee the Show, a jewelry event founded by designers for designers.

Ethical Gem Fair in Tucson: begins Feb. 1 (in person)

The Ethical Gem Fair returns to the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Tucson’s historic Armory Park neighborhood, and will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Feb. 4.
