At its Rare Watches and American Icons sale June 21, Christie’s auctioned Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis’ beloved Cartier Tank watch, which sold for $379,500 and set a new world record for a Cartier Tank (the consignor donated a portion of the proceeds to the National Endowment for the Arts). (Story update: Kim Kardashian West bought the watch.)
But the top-selling watch was a Richard Mille sapphire split-seconds chronograph wristwatch that realized $1,207,500, making it the most expensive wristwatch Christie’s has ever sold at auction in North America.
The live auction, which took place at Christie’s New York, totaled $10,028,500.

Other big sellers included the Heuer Indianapolis Motor Speedway Autavia, which sold for $199,500, setting a new world record for any Heuer Autavia, and a Rolex “Paul Newman” in 18k gold with lemon dial, which sold for a cool $871,500.
