It was a fabulous day and a stressful day last Thursday, when the Hearts On Fire x Hayley Paige collection of stackable diamond bands and engagement rings landed online. Enthusiasm for the launch was so robust that it crashed the site, but all is well now—and traffic continues to soar.
JCK covered the collaboration when it was announced last September, and though there were no visuals to share at that time, on some level we knew what to expect when the product became available: youthful, fun, and feminine styles, in keeping with Hayley Paige’s super-popular bridal fashion line. Rose gold seemed likely. Ditto diamond stackers and little details that reference the world of ball gowns, bows, and beaded bodices.
And when we saw and tried on the collection at William Barthman in downtown Manhattan (there are 23 styles in all) our expectations were confirmed. But there’s an energy to these rings, too—a Champagne-bubble lightness and a kind of spunk—along with a number of things that surprised us.
Starting with, in a first for the Hearts On Fire diamond brand, the use of pink sapphires. The gemstone is central to many of the designs; and, in fact, each ring is detailed with a “hidden” pink sapphire, which will serve as a brand signature. (The sapphires have been cut for optimal color quality, not according to the proprietary Hearts On Fire configuration, which emphasizes sparkle.)
There is also a ring inspired by the swoop of a gown’s skirt draped à la polonaise that includes another first for Hearts On Fire: the mixing of three metal colors.
Meanwhile, the Sloane bands are delicately edged with picot, a trim used in fashion that has tiny decorative loops dotting the length of a satin ribbon or worked into a lace pattern.
And then there are the Love Code rings, three charmers that include a band that spells out “I love you” in diamond Morse code, a “Mrs.” style that replicates Paige’s handwriting, and a sweet all-gold love knot, with an equally sweet price point (just $790).
The daintiest midi/pinky ring and a couple of on-trend chevron styles round out the strongest styles in the assortment.
