Potterheads, rejoice! Or, to put it more accurately, gift givers shopping for Potterheads, rejoice!
A story is a very powerful thing, and the enduring fandom of Harry Potter proves that well. With fans around the world, a beloved film series, theme parks, and stage plays, the world of Harry Potter continues to grow. Even in light of its creator’s controversial statements, fans’ love for the stories persist—a world made so personal for many, it’s one to get lost in, to escape from today’s harsh realities into a magical realm, a place where good triumphs over evil and jelly beans taste like earwax.
Which is why holiday catalogs are ringing with new Harry Potter merchandise, and one such new entry is from American watch brand Fossil.
A series of timepieces themed to the four houses of Hogwarts—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin—feature nylon straps in each corresponding house’s colors, along with its animal icon atop the Hogwarts house crest on the dial. Each watch retails for $200.
For the giftee who wants something a little more all-encompassing (or, for the one who fancies themselves a Gryffindor but might really be a Hufflepuff), the Heritage watch features all four house colors joined at the center with a Hogwarts crest. The watch, made in a limited quantity, features a gold-tone case, lightning bolt second hand, and glow-in-the-dark minute and hour hands, and retails for $500.
The collection not only features watches but also a series of jewelry—and some imaginative pieces at that. The house necklaces help wearers to show off their Slytherin status or their seat at the Ravenclaw table, while a charming necklace and stud earrings showcase icons including a lightning bolt, Harry’s glasses, the golden snitch, and a Platform 9¾ logo. The studs come in a set of five singles, perfect for the fan who adores a good earring party.
For fans of the books or films who want to wear their love for it with a slight bit of subtlety, it’s the collection’s offering of more obscure icons that really shines. A starry night sky is the backdrop to a golden silhouette of Hogwarts in a dog tag–style pendant (pictured at top). The Mirror of Erised, which shows what one most desires, is illuminated in mother-of-pearl. And the Time Turner, one of the series’ notable pieces of actual jewelry, is brought to life with a crystal-filled hourglass.
The collection is available now at Fossil stores and online.
