While poring over old newspaper and magazine articles for a book celebrating its centennial, Hamilton Jewelers—the New Jersey–based retailer I wrote about in last week’s Retail Details—happened upon a piece of JCK history.
Searching online, the company found an article from the magazine circa 1974, featuring an interview with Martin Siegel, then-heir to the Hamilton business. While Google supplied only a snippet, JCK Web editor Daniel Ford combed the archives and found the full story.
The article details the slick, disco-era design of the company’s new Trenton store that featured Lucite and Formica accents and curvilinear lines defining everything from the ceiling and walls to the plump brown vinyl suede armchairs.
Groovy, baby!
