Gold/Italy 2017—a show dedicated to promote jewelry that’s made in Italy—got underway in Arezzo, Italy, today. The fifth edition of the show features some 300 brands from all of the Italian gold districts: Arezzo, Vicenza, Valenza, Torre del Greco, and Milan. Following an agreement last March with Arezzo Fiere e Congressi Srl to appoint a single organization responsible for gold and jewelry exhibitions in Italy, this is the first show since the Italian Exhibition Group has taken over management. Gold/Italy 2017 runs through Monday, Oct. 23.
Most of the exhibitors displayed gold and silver jewelry in made by artisans schooled in the country’s ancient art of metalwork. However, silverware and fashion jewelry were also on display. Several companies participated in the Create Your Love contest, which challenged designers to create a necklace from the simple concept of a circle, a symbol of love and eternity. Another key element in the contest was the “sinacolas,” or gold balls that mothers and nannies use to calm their children dating back to the 1600s.
This edition of Gold/Italy 2017 also features a Creative Design Lab/Jewels Lab Design, a project dedicated to creativity and the future of jewelry design. One designer, Marina Valli, submitted an idea for single earrings that dangle from a pair of eyeglasses.
