Second-generation French jeweler Gigi Clozeau is celebrating 10 years in business this December, with the release of a limited-edition necklace and her first-ever pop-up shop in New York City.
Clozeau’s colorful collection spawned from a pearl bracelet she was given at birth, made by her jeweler father. That delicate gold chain with resin pearls became her brand’s backbone, now available in an assortment of colors, styles, and lengths—with or without charms or diamonds—all in 18k gold.
“The way that people buy jewelry has evolved since I began designing,” Clozeau tells JCK of her last decade. “Women are purchasing jewelry for themselves as opposed to strictly buying jewelry as gifts for others. My biggest challenge is selling jewelry in the U.S. market. It is a very challenging market to be a part of.”
Gigi Clozeau jewelry is sold by retail stores in 12 countries, with 87 of the boutiques in the U.S. But she is making her first foray into brick-and-mortar retail with a 10th-anniversary New York City pop-up, open into January at 247 Elizabeth St. in SoHo.
“The pop-up is going great so far,” Clozeau says. “Customers are very excited to see the brand in real life and engage with the jewelry. It is so exciting to give people a chance to see the full collection in person. Many new shoppers are discovering our brand, and it is rewarding to spend time with them.”
In addition to the NYC shop, Clozeau has a new necklace with a joyous colorway: Numéro 10, released (and named) for the company’s anniversary. Available for a limited time, the exclusive piece features 16.5 inches of delicate rose gold chain and resin beads in warm shades of pink, orange, and red—a celebration of love and optimism.
While the designer is happy to enjoy the milestone, she’s looking to the future—Clozeau tells JCK to expect a new colorway this spring—and embracing the holiday season. ” I will be going back to my French roots, which include enjoying delicious treats while spending time with my favorite people,” says Clozeau, who grew up in Paris and the south of France.
