New York City–based Lauren Chisholm helms a three-year-old eponymous design firm with a minimalist vibe and frequent asymmetry with 18k gold balls subtly incorporated into each piece. Chisholm spent the early part of her career painting murals and trompe l’oeil for private clients, adding jewelry design in the past few years to honor memories of a grandfather with a jewelry shop on 47th Street. Chisholm sketches and hand-fabricates original pieces, giving prototypes to other U.S.-based jewelers to re-create or to casting houses to produce. CAD/CAM may be in her future. “3-D printing is like magic!” she exclaims. Chisholm works in sterling silver, 14k gold, and 18k gold, using a variety of gems and pearls for sparkle.
