Longtime friends Isabel Encinias and Mark Kroeker met in the fashion category, but joined creative forces in jewelry this year to develop ethical line Tejen. Encinias has a jewelry-design background—she has studied at the Jewelry Institute of New York and the University of New Mexico, among others—and spent four years as design director for John Hardy. Kroeker, meanwhile, has worked as a fashion designer, a creative director, and an art director in the luxury industry. Together, they offer a French-made, sustainable fine jewelry collection featuring a minimalist aesthetic with fluting and princess-cut stones and silhouettes, Fairmined gold or silver designs, and F-G color, VVS clarity diamonds that are RJC and/or Kimberley certified. Tejen aims to combine ancient (the name refers to Egyptian obelisks) and modern in “a meaningful way, responsibly embellishing the world we live in,” says Encinias.
