This JCK Tucson exhibitor showed all gold stretchable styles rendered in goldsmithing techniques learned from his father and grandfather
Murat Karagulle’s lean 18k gold looks for Shiva Design & Jewels aren’t typical Turkish-inspired jewelry design. Lithe numbers are executed in 18k yellow and pink gold, and Karagulle’s designs are often set with colorless and irradiated blue diamonds. Plus, he’s got a proprietary flexible effect learned from his dad and grandfather and perfected over his 25-year-long career making jewelry. “We make elastic gold that is hollow inside but strong thanks to a technique of heating and extruding wire until gold is flexible with no coils inside,” he explained last week at JCK Tucson. His team comprises two designers, a stone buyer, and a staffer working in research and development, and everything is made in Turkey. A heavier-looking silver and gold unisex line dubbed Leje also exists.
