Carmen Diaz started designing jewelry more than 10 years ago but debuted her eponymous firm only one year ago—after her small kids enrolled in school. Originally from Colombia, Diaz abandoned a career in mathematics upon graduation from the University of Florida to explore jewelry design, making wire-wrapped numbers that eventually gave way to cast creations in 14k gold. Her signature is minimalist celestial motifs with spiky star points that celebrate her love of the night sky. Diamonds complete many of her pieces—“Their brilliance reminds me of the light of the stars of the universe,” she says—and all pieces are made in downtown Miami.
