Garry Holloway Writes Book Filled With Diamond ‘Insider Secrets’

Share

Self-described “cut nut” Garry Holloway recently published How to Select the Best Diamonds: Insider Secrets, a book meant to educate first-time buyers as well as the trade.

The 352-page book covers business and technical aspects of diamonds, particularly regarding how diamonds are graded and how to assess cut.

Holloway, who owns Holloway Diamonds in Melbourne, Australia, said in a statement that he wrote the book out of “frustration that the value of the best diamonds is held back by being given the same grade as average-quality stones” and that he hopes the book will serve as “an industry wake-up call.”

“Controversial takes” in the book, according to Holloway, include “labs should provide face-up color grades alongside the traditional color through the back of the stone,” “diamond grading reports, or certs, are sales tools, not for consumer protection,” and “diamonds, especially larger stones, really are incredibly rare.”

Holloway is the inventor of the Holloway Cut Adviser, a pioneering online cut-grading system, as well as the diamond measuring tools Ideal Scope and ASET Scope.

The author of this article provided a blurb for Holloway’s book.
