Hal Lawton, a former vice president of eBay, has been named the new president of Macy’s.
Lawton, who was most recently senior vice president of eBay North America, will oversee Macy’s merchandising, marketing, stores, operations, technology, and consumer insights and analytics. He previously worked at Home Depot, where he served as president of online. Before that, he was an associate principal at McKinsey & Company.
Lawton will report to CEO Jeff Gennette.
Adding Lawton is a “key step as we look to further transform the business and work through the volatility of today’s retail landscape,” Gennette said in a statement.
The company also announced it is restructuring its merchandising functions, into a single merchandising operation headed by 35-year-Macy’s-veteran Jeff Kantor. This will result in 100 job cuts in its merchandising department.
