Anthony D’Amore, 73, owner of a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., jewelry business, was killed on Dec. 20 during an argument with a customer over the sale of a Rolex, according to news reports and the local police department.
Nenad Milosevich, 56, has been charged with second-degree murder for the crime, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said in a statement to JCK.
According to a police report, Milosevich, described as a “family friend,” told detectives that he went to D’Amore’s showroom to buy his girlfriend jewelry for Christmas. However, D’Amore was reluctant to make the sale since Milosevich still owed him money for a $20,000 Rolex, the report said.
An argument ensued, and Milosevich hit D’Amore twice in the throat, then choked him, according to what the suspect told police. Milosevich also admitted to leaving D’Amore unresponsive and grabbing jewelry and the store’s security camera, which he later threw off a bridge, police said.
Detectives found D’Amore’s body inside his business on Dec. 23 after his wife asked the sheriff’s department to conduct a welfare check.
D’Amore was the fourth jeweler killed in 2024 in the course of doing business, according to the Jewelers’ Security Alliance. In July, another Florida jewelery store owner, Ghazi “Gus” Osta, was killed during an argument with a customer.
