The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) can take credit for minting many of our industry’s great jewelry designers…and for sparking innumerable romances between students. Both circumstances apply to Arpita and Divyanshu Navlakha, who first met at the GIA and later went on to the form the husband-and-wife team behind Sutra Jewels.
Launched in 2008, Sutra was and still is a combination of Divyanshu’s expertise in fine gem sourcing and Arpita’s limitless creativity, flair for enchanting color palettes, and graceful, flawlessly executed compositions. Sutra means “a collection of sacred verses” in Sanskrit; fittingly, each new piece is brought to life by a chorus of artisans in the company’s Mumbai, India, atelier, according to Arpita’s vision and strict craftsmanship standards.
The brand debuted its 2018 collections at Baselworld, and since this year marks its 10-year anniversary, the offerings include a special capsule to be released in stages. A peek at the first installment is showcased at the end of this post.
But first, a survey of Sutra’s most memorable moments thus far.
