In late August, JCK sat down with Marrow Fine Jewelry founder Jillian Sassone during a press preview event at the Proper Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. The table where she showed the brand’s latest assortment of wedding jewelry was set with colorful macarons, but they paled beside the teal Montana sapphires, watery aquamarines, saturated emeralds, and gray spinels Sassone showed off in her fall 2022 engagement ring collection. (Don’t worry—there were plenty of diamonds too!)
Below, we highlight the trends Sassone noted, most of which dovetailed with what we saw at the JCK show in Las Vegas in June. In short, chunkier, bezel-set rings; white metal; antique cuts (cushion, old European, and oval); and saturated colors are poised to win hearts and minds this fall, so be sure you’re stocked!
Chunkier Bezel Settings
“It was dainty for so long, now people are looking for chunkier styles,” Sassone tells JCK.
White Metal
“Gen Z has brought white metal back,” says Sassone. “Yellow gold is what their moms wore.”
Saturated Colors
Enamel Bands—For the Guys
“Enamel is killing it for us,” says Sassone, citing Marrow’s Til Death bands. “Guys love them. They’re a modern take on vintage style.”
Toi et Moi Rings
“Two-stone is really big right now,” says Sassone. “It has a vintage feel.”
Antique Diamonds
Cigar Bands
“Our best-performing social posts always have a cigar band,” says Sassone. “And men love them too.”
Custom Cuts
“We have a cutter in Honolulu, Glenn Preus,” says Sassone. “He specializes in really interesting facets and egg shapes. His spinels are stunning. He sources the rough and cuts it. One of his offbeat cuts is the ‘mermaid tail’—we have it in an aqua.”
