Pink, in one form or another, has been a zeitgeisty presence for some time. First came Millennial Pink, then Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year—Rose Quartz—and, more recently, Barbie Pink; it’s a color that’s been beloved again and again.
It’s hardly ever tiresome, especially when presented in so many hues. And yet it still has the ability to surprise, and catch us off guard.
Case in point: The Rock. Dwayne Johnson wore a custom ballet pink Dolce & Gabbana tux to the 2023 Oscars, and it was just stunning. Even if you didn’t like it, you can’t deny its noteworthy vibe—you can’t ignore pink.
To seal the deal on baby pink, Allison Williams wore a Giambattista Valli haute couture gown with a pink tulle cape. Hong Chau wore a custom pink Prada. Stephanie Hsu donned a pink gown, albeit more akin to the Barbie variety of pink. Even the former red carpet, dubbed “champagne,” had more of a pink tinge going on.
So to say pink is back, well, that’s not quite right. But to say ballet or baby pink is having a moment seems spot-on, and naturally we’re looking to the jewels to exemplify this sweetly chic shade.
Look to stones like rose quartz and pink opal, conch, coral, and morganite, as well as a pink diamond. Even a light tourmaline or sapphire might do the trick, and even in darker shades would make a beautiful contrast to any ballet pink attire.
