Yesterday’s Britt’s Pick was all about emerald, and now I feel as if I have started a new infatuation for myself. Typically this renewed recognition takes until May—it happens each year, without fail—my birthstone again becomes of great interest, and I seek out the latest designs presenting the precious gemstone in all its glory. This year, that period of emerald jewelry coveting is starting a little early.
I blame the red carpets, where emerald tends to prevail, and I trust that we’ll see more of it come next month’s Academy Awards. I expect them to come in gigantic earring form, though those long drop pendants that adorn the skin left bare in low-cut dresses, or cascade down the skin of a backless gown, are always welcome.
As for everyday jewelry (that is, pieces worn to work and on the weekends, for example), I like to see variations in rose gold (it just feels different somehow, and yet it seems to be popping up more often of late) and a slightly more casual take on emerald, as opposed to the large pieces that seem to require accompaniment by an armored vehicle (still, I like those, too).
Something of note: While most of the choices below are rings (that was not done on purpose!), the retailer in me would like to remind your customers to take care when considering wearing these everyday pieces, well, every day. Or at least, for activities that would threaten the softness of that beautiful stone (like gardening or lifting weights, or something like that). Save the emeralds!
