Geneva-based jewelry house de Grisogono is embarking on an ongoing jewelry collaboration with Emmanuel Tarpin, the 27- year-old, award-winning French jewelry designer.
An acclaimed young designer, Tarpin has been honored with the Rising Star Award from Fashion Group International, and he was named designer of the year at this year’s Town & Country Jewelry Awards.
Aluminum is Tarpin’s preferred medium for capturing the folds, ripples, dimples, textures, and colors of the natural world. For the de Grisogono collaboration, he was asked to use the house’s design codes as a starting point for a six-piece capsule titled Prologue (four of the designs are highlighted here).
“I like the maison’s notion of volume as well as its exuberance, which makes each of its pieces so interesting,” Tarpin said in a statement. “I find there is a similarity between the contrast of shapes, colors, and textures in de Grisogono’s creations as well as in mine. We also share a common notion of innovation and design and a love of delighting with surprise.”
For Prologue, Tarpin relied on a feminine, couture fashion–inspired ribbon motif expressed in spiraling loops and interlaced cordelettes.
In 2020, Prologue is expected to be followed by de Grisogono x Emmanuel Tarpin Chapters 1 and 2.
Working with Tarpin is, in fact, the first phase of de Grisogono’s new Creativity in Residence program, wherein Tarpin serves as the inaugural artist in residence.
The house plans to collaborate with a series of other artists in the coming years.

Looking ahead, the program will likewise go on to ask other artists to interpret the house’s signature aesthetic in fresh and exciting ways.
