De Beers chief brand officer David Prager (pictured) has been appointed chair of the Natural Diamond Council. He has been an NDC board member since late 2022.
Prager succeeds former De Beers executive vice president of marketing Stephen Lussier, who is retiring as NDC chairman and director. Lussier, who retired from De Beers last year, was one of the founders of the NDC—originally known as the Diamond Producers Association—in 2015.
In a statement, the group’s CEO David Kellie said, “I will miss [Stephen’s] mentorship, but also wish him a very happy retirement.”
Lussier said in a statement: “Consumer desire for diamonds and consumer demand for diamond jewelry are the foundation upon which our industry is built, and the work of the NDC is pivotal in maintaining and building this consumer desire. This could not be clearer than it is in the current market. I remain fully confident that with the right marketing, the diamond dream will live ‘forever.’”
