Fancy an escape for the summer? Alina Abegg is offering Cosmic Escape, a collection that’s truly out of this world.
We’ve covered the moon and stars as in-demand icons in jewelry, but how about what dwells among them? Much like the mermaids I highlighted earlier this week, alien life-forms might be more fantasy than reality, but that doesn’t stop people from believing.
First things first: Let’s talk limited edition. The designer recently bowed a line—dubbed Iconic—that features the original collection’s most popular styles crafted in 9k gold with sparkle-infused enamel. For a kid who grew up in the ’90s, the additions are an absolute dream. What’s more nostalgic than alien heads and mood ring–style glitter?
But Cosmic Escape goes beyond the recognizable alien face to include elements very much associated with extraterrestrials. Earrings and rings depicting a UFO, and a very cool Crop Circle ring—making awesome, modern use of pearl—are two of the most compelling pieces from the collection.
The designer’s also created an assortment of Saturn-themed jewels. If you weren’t aware, Saturn is a planet often associated with extraterrestrial sightings and activity. (I know this only because I Googled it, and, man, are there stories out there.)
Believer or not, how can anyone help but find this collection to be utterly whimsical and wonderfully magical? In a statement, the brand notes its limited-edition pieces are inspired by the idea that “we are all made from stardust,” and, with a concept like that, these pieces take on a spiritual angle, one that connects consumers by more than just pure nostalgia.
Cosmic Escape is the first collection from Alina Abegg, a Berlin-based jeweler who attended London’s Istituto Marangoni and the Gemological Institute of America in New York. Abegg has a flair for bringing magical mysteries to life, and I can’t wait to see what she dreams up next.
