The brand known for obtaining auction-quality diamonds will debut a new line of oval cuts during jewelry week
Since Rahaminov’s specialty is big stones, it wasn’t much of a surprise when Melanie Goldfiner, daughter of owners Amir and Tamara and who recently joined the family business, reached out to me with word of a new collection of big cuts. The hook in these new looks? Ovals—the entire collection features oval-shape diamonds.
Dubbed Movál, some nine pieces currently exist, though expect to see more at JCK LUXURY in their booth no. 921. Each piece is a one of a kind that is set in 18k gold or platinum, and the stones themselves are either colorless or a fancy color such as pink. As for the design inspiration, the family looked back in time to make a beautiful piece for the present.
“We saw an Edwardian ring from the 1920s, and were inspired by the shape and design of the diamond,” explains Goldfiner. “We are taking a very desirable shape and adding a Rahaminov twist to the diamond—cutting it to perfection and to specific proportions to maximize the stone’s beauty, life, and brilliance.”
Additionally, the Goldfiners like the shape—a lot. The oval’s elongated nature makes it look bigger than some other shape but without sacrificing brilliance. The name of the collection means elongated or a marquise oval.
“We like the softness of a round tip versus the pointy nature of a marquise,” she adds.
Currently, no buy-in exists, and retail prices start around $20,000.
