Diamond-shape stones are the stars of a whimsical new collection from the New York City–based jewelry designer
Julie Lamb’s newest looks are just as whimsical as her namesake animal styles, and while they don’t offer a cuddly mascot, they are still just as covetable. Enter her proprietary diamond-shape cut stones that are part of her new Metropolis collection.
Lamb first spied the stone about three years ago when walking the Tucson gem shows with a friend. Her pal saw a diamond shape while Lamb saw the Superman symbol, both of which were indisputably likable. “You see what you want,” says Lamb, who started ordering custom cuts from cutters in New York City so she could oversee color selection. “I like my blues and yellows really light,” she adds.
Plus, the silhouette and fun puns that accompany any Superman reference work well with the Metropolis name, and the shape speaks to the geometric trend happening in the market. Also fun: the punny ads she can create, such as “Acknowledge her superpowers” for Valentine’s and Mother’s day.
