If you’ve opened up Instagram today, there’s a good chance you’ve been treated to a number of holiday memes. You know the ones—a split screen of Oct. 31 and someone dressed for Halloween, and an image marked Nov. 1 with someone in a Santa hat.

It’s also likely you’ve already been regaled with the sweet sounds of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” a classic you can’t escape no matter how hard you try. Yes, the holiday season is in full swing, ready or not.

Retailers have been planning their holiday stock for some time now, with the best gift-worthy items in mind for all manner of shoppers. But this is also a season of self-purchasing, as revelers accessorize for their packed social calendars.

Cocktail rings are one type of jewelry often worn to holiday parties—a natural fit for dressing up and getting noticed—as are statement earrings, the perfect complement to swept-back hair and elegant attire. But 2023 feels like a necklace year, with an epic assortment of necklaces on the market right now.

Collars and chokers, in particular, are in the spotlight. Many are gold-plated or sterling silver, which makes them ideal for gifting or occasion dressing. Others are all-out luxuries, high jewelry dripping in diamonds and gemstones, good for special occasions and for being future family heirlooms.
