Greetings from Walt Disney World, where magic reigns and a Mickey-shaped pretzel will cost you $7 (but it comes with cheese!).
I write this now sitting in a cool, dark hotel room on Disney property, sleeping baby at my side, tuckered out from a morning filled with sights, sounds, rides, and intense Florida sunshine.
We’re having a blast.
While Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration remains in full swing—the Magic Kingdom, its only park at the time, opened on Oct. 1, 1971—the Walt Disney company now gears up for another milestone: 100 years since its founding.
Joining that celebration is Citizen Watch, which began its partnership with Disney in 2018. (I was there to represent JCK at the event in Walt Disney World marking the alliance, and it truly was an epic, memorable occasion; read the report here.)
The Disney100 collection by Disney x Citizen has made its debut with a Steamboat Willie watch, showcasing the Mickey Mouse cartoon short that started it all. Featuring the black-and-white likeness of Mickey at the helm of his ship, its whistle positioned atop the date window, the watch has a crocodile-embossed leather strap in black, rose gold-tone accents, and a stainless steel case. The limited-edition box set includes a matching collectible pin.
This is the first in a series of timepieces Citizen will release in its Disney100 collection, with additional Mickey and Friends, Princesses and Villains, Marvel, and Star Wars designs to be released throughout the year. The Walt Disney Company officially turns 100 on Oct. 16, 2023.
