A number of factors make carved turquoise a particularly relevant item to have stocked in stores right now.
First, there’s the obvious: Turquoise is, unequivocally, the stone of summer. As JCK editor-in-chief Victoria Gomelsky wrote, “Perhaps it has something to do with the stone’s robin’s-egg blue hue, or its reputation as a totem of bohemian style, or the way it lends itself to beaded jewels that boast a distinctly warm-weather vibe.” Despite the fact that turquoise is the birthstone of December, it holds a special place in our hearts (and collections) during these warmer months.
Then there’s the current resurgence of boho fashion. What we usually see at Coachella has translated to the everyday, and turquoise is well suited to this aesthetic.
But this isn’t a curation of just turquoise, incredible as it is on its own—I want to share some of the latest in carved turquoise. If consumers are once again, as evidence suggests, seeking joyful purchases and making careful selections that will last and remain in style, what jewel could bring happiness—and continue to do so over time—better than, say, an intricately carved turquoise mermaid?
Here are a few carved turquoise pieces perfect for (late) summer. Yet like all good jewels, they have staying power—not just through the colder months to come but year after year.
