Summer is winding down, and for the first time in many years, I’m not ready to let it go.
Usually by this point in August, I’m queuing up the Halloween movies, breathing in all the pumpkin scents, and dreaming of sweater weather. This year instead, I’m soaking up what’s left of the summer sun, all too aware of how it feels when the wind gets just a bit stronger and cooler, the days a little shorter. I guess this is what it feels like to live in the moment.
I probably owe my grip on this season to the fact that my oldest is headed off to kindergarten in just over a week. From here on out, summer isn’t merely one season that melts into another—it’s a turning point, a break from the norm. Soon, I’ll be holding on not only to the season but to my daughter, too, our long days together growing less frequent, more treasured.
Leave it to a cuff bracelet to keep these big feelings flowing. Buccellati has released a special-edition line of its iconic bracelets, a collection that’s an ode to the island of Capri. I visited Capri in the summer of 2011—back when “carefree” was really taken for granted—and the six styles comprising this release really do paint a picture of the southern Italy locale’s vibrant setting: turquoise waters, bright blooms, rich greenery.
Established in 1919 in Milan, Buccellati is now helmed by third-generation creative director Andrea Buccellati, whose Capri bangles evoke imagery of the island and its picturesque, lemon-scented beauty. Such a tribute to this place are these bracelets, they can only be seen—and purchased—on Capri, in Buccellati’s historic Via Camerelle boutique and the recently opened boutique at Hotel La Palma.
