Britt’s Pick: Yvonne Léon’s Chevaliere Signet Ring

The holidays are a time to be thinking of others, not solely for the purpose of gifting but also to appreciate the feeling of togetherness.

Still, the act of the self-purchase can be pretty difficult to resist this time of year. Who else has bought something lovely for a friend or family member, and tacked an extra one on for herself? Who else selects gifts for those closest to them with the intention of also enjoying them?

I know you’re out there—it can’t be just me. Does this put us on Santa’s naughty list, or are we just human in a world (and industry) filled with beautiful things we wish to enjoy?

I’ll be the first to double down on the notion. It’s the holiday season, and I want a lot of jewelry. Starting with this new ring, from a designer quite familiar with creating irresistible things: Yvonne Léon.

I’d be tempted to wear this supercool signet on my pinky—and that would elevate the ring’s already packed style power. With its green enamel background that appears to alternate with rows of golden studs, Léon has infused a dash of punk into this otherwise elegant piece. It first caught my eye because I thought it had a pattern of plaid (and during the holidays I am all about plaid—particularly gingham, which is what I see here).

Adding to the ring’s regal appearance: a twist of gold that frames the oval-shape face—with a single bezel-set diamond, for good measure—and a band featuring rows of gold studs against green, narrowing in size as they descend.

“To bring character to our ring, we worked with the texture of the gold and brought color through the incrustation of the green enamel,” Léon tells JCK about the piece’s creation.

The ring is available in two other color combinations: yellow and violet and white and black—plus there’s a fantastic heart-shape version with a rainbow of enamel. But the green feels very of-the-moment, especially festive.
