Britt’s Pick: Ruby and Diamond Earrings by Butani

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, I imagine you find yourself, like me, in the spirit of all things dragons and fire and ice. We’ve only four episodes left before the show leaves us for good, so for die-hard fans—and even casual ones—there can be nothing but GoT mania for the next month.

Which means I’m seeing dragons in unexpected places.

Case in point: these earrings by Butani. Where a spiral of rubies curls around a cascade of diamonds, I see dragons. Fiery, red dragons, stealthily curving their bodies around the spires of a tall building or tower that is constructed of glittering bricks, slick with rain or ice.

Without my Game of Thrones glasses on, this is an elegant pair of earrings, composed of more than 22 carats of rubies and more than 18 carats of diamonds, in a style the brand is calling Red Carpet. Red carpet–worthy these are, but with my (Jon) Snow goggles firmly in place, these earrings aren’t just good for any award show–attending celebrity, but rather more fitting for a Targaryen.

Though their dose of color and massive amounts of glitter may seem in Stark (see what I did there?) contrast to the dreary darkness that currently encapsulates our favorite cast of characters, we must hope for a (somewhat) happy ending, where shiny things and (at least some) bits of happiness will be allowed back in. I await the resolution eagerly, but also with sadness, because soon my Sunday nights won’t be nearly as entertaining.

As for the earrings—they’ll be around, looking amazing, long after we close the book on GoT. You might catch a glimpse of them at JCK Las Vegas this year, when you visit Butani at booth 49112 in the Hong Kong neighborhood.
