I guess I’ve started mentally shopping for my birthday a little early this year. Though it wasn’t only the emerald (May’s birthstone and mine) of this ring by Just Jules that caught my eye, its alluring shade of green is certainly the star.

Green is a hot hue at the moment—I mean, it always is, right?—but the more retail sites I visit, the more they feature a green color story for spring (check out Shopbop’s, in which I want to pair everything with emerald jewelry). So if your customers aren’t demanding emerald enough already, there’s a trend-focused angle that can be pounced on right now, from a store-display and sales point of view.

For me, this ring goes above and beyond simply being green, though. Its hand-fabricated combination of shapes—a square-edge halo flanked by angled, kite-shape sides—is the most geometrically pleasing look, a flawless grouping. And those side stones? Swoon, rose-cut diamonds. It doesn’t get better than rose-cut diamonds.

I recently had the chance to ask Julie Romanenko—the designer and “Jules” behind the brand—a few questions about her inspirations for design and love for Art Deco–era jewelry (you can read the full Q&A on JCK Insider, here). The one tidbit that stands out where this ring is concerned is how her love for 1920’s-style jewelry influenced her Commitments collection—a line of engagement rings and wedding bands of which this ring is a member. Romanenko is proud of the collection (as well she should be) for its ability to honor the past while looking into the future.

While this ring is intended as an engagement ring (and what a romantic gesture that would be, I mean, shall I swoon again?), I think it’s a rather versatile piece. I’d love to see it on a pinky (correction, I’d love to see it on my pinky), so if a certain someone is reading this and shopping for my birthday, err on the smaller size when it comes to fit, okay?
