Britt’s Pick: Retrouvaí’s Oval Diamond Impetus Ring

At this point you may have been inundated with engagement rings featuring elongated center stones—it’s a highly compelling current trend.

After years of round brilliant as the favorite center stone, the landslide of oval, marquise, and emerald cuts is welcome, and though you’d be hard-pressed to find a style of engagement ring that’s truly new, this presentation of slender, tall diamonds feels earth-shattering, especially for those who might not have considered alternative shapes.

Most elongated center stones have a north-south orientation, letting the gem sit tall along the finger, often with a slim band to let the diamond stand out—and catch the eye.

Retrouvaí’s Impetus ring isn’t like those rings, except in one very important way: Despite its intricate and thoughtful design, it’s very much all about that center stone.

“For this piece, our first pavé Impetus, the 4.14-carat vintage natural diamond was the starting point,” Retrouvaí founder and designer Kirsty Stone tells JCK. “It only made sense to complement the antique center stone with reclaimed antique melee.”

Set at a slight angle, that luscious vintage diamond would have managed just fine on a minimalist band, but Stone’s superlative POV resulted in a vessel fit for its presence. Similar to the last piece that completes a jigsaw puzzle, the oval fits perfectly within its gilded picture, glittering with precious treasures of the past. And this ring, like many others in Retrouvaí’s Impetus line, is one-of-a-kind.

“Each of these rings are created entirely around the dimensions of the unique center stone,” Stone says. “The Impetus collection represents that we are each individually part of a much larger picture.”
