December, a month packed with holiday festivities and equally festive jewels, is but a few days away. It’s also the month of turquoise, the birthstone that gets as much love in the summer months as it does this time of year.
It helps to be a beautiful blue that goes with everything. But in the case of the Peacock ring by Toronto-based jewelry designer Sanaz Doost, the impact of the stone’s crystal clear, sometimes electric blue hue has never been more apparent.
Crafted in solid 18k yellow gold with beautiful handmade details, the ring fans out upon the finger with a crown dotted in natural Persian Neyshabur turquoise, which, according to GIA, is known for its unique color and quality.
Given the gemstone-to-metal ratio here, it’s pretty incredible how potent the color is, painting a gold scene in vivid beauty.
The Peacock ring is from Doost’s Geometry collection, an ode to Persian geometry. “Geometrical analysis of many Persian historical buildings has proven that a complete knowledge of proportions, in particular the Golden Ratio, was widely used in Persian art and architecture, and it was the basis of Persian aesthetics,” read the notes on the collection.
Turquoise has spiritual value in Persian culture, often signifying prosperity, victory, and the depths of the universe, and it was often used in ancient traditions.
“The Peacock ring was inspired by geometry in ancient Persian architecture,” says Doost. “This ring pays homage to my motherland, Iran. With designing it, I was trying to preserve the magnificent beauty of Persian architecture. Also, the peacock is symbol of power, strength, and confidence—things that we need nowadays more than ever.”
As for the best place on the hand to wear it? Doost recommends the middle finger as the perfect seat for the ring, on its own or in a stack. And for maximum impact (the ring is quite large, see this image of it on a hand), pair it with the diamond-dotted version of the Peacock ring or make it a suite with the matching earrings and necklace.
