It’s still August, and I am holding tight to the summer, wanting to enjoy every last bit of sunshine, swimming, and warm, hazy evenings.
But there is change in the wind. Even on the hottest days, autumn is there in the breezes. And here in northern Virginia, school is back in session. There’s no fighting it—the Halloween season has begun.
Why yes, I did jump straight from summer into Halloween—is there any other way? For lovers of the spooky holiday, it’s synonymous with fall.
To bridge the gap between now and that soon-to-arrive season, I like to seek fashions that aren’t totally on-the-nose (I’ll save my assortment of Halloween-themed sweatshirts for at least late September) but do exude a bit of mystery and macabre, to subtly play up the anticipation.
No accessory can offer a beautifully haunting look better than jewelry—there’s been evidence of that for centuries.
The Onirikka earrings pictured here, from the brand’s Rose collection, carry some mysterious enchantment in their black blooms, softened by a couple in white. Carved of onyx and agate, the roses are spaced by bezel-set diamonds, the 18k yellow gold providing a hint of warmth.
“These earrings are inspired by the soft petals of the rose and the edgy throne on the stem, making the rose delicate but strong,” says Onirikka founder and creator Gloria Batlle. “The rose is a timeless and beloved flower that speaks universally to most with many symbolic meanings. I always like to introduce the elegance of a tuxedo palette of black and white into my collections, representing balance. Wanting to expanding my collections with carved gemstones, I was immediately connected to the black onyx and white agate carved roses.”
