With the vibe I’m carrying this summer, I am especially drawn to the snake scales jewels by Dubai-based brand Maison H—but not for the reason it’s intended.
The pieces are an extension of the jeweler’s Skin collection, which was designed to mimic the appearance of “molten gold that has delicately flowed and solidified on your skin,” according to the company’s website. These latest additions take the name a bit more literally, crafted with the textures of a crocodile or—what we have here—a snake.
The snake (and anything to do with the snake) is a hot item in jewelry. There are a lot of feelings associated with this creature: boldness, bravery, a little devilishness, perhaps, and above all, complete and utter chic. As Maison H is inspired by its surroundings—the rich, cosmopolitan atmosphere of Dubai—its jewels sing serious luxury.
But viewed through rainbow-tinted lenses and a sense of fantasy and wonder, I embrace the childlike reverie of play, in which dragons and mermaids are real and we’re all surrounded by magic. That’s the feeling we’re going for in summer 2024, when time is fleeting yet enchantment can live forever, if only we set aside the realities of adulthood for a while.
So your badass snake scales ring is my whimsical ode to mermaids, or perhaps a token of affection from one fire-breathing dragon to another—wherever the imagination may take us.
In any event, Maison H has a good assortment of snake scale–inspired rings, made of white or yellow gold, with glossy or brushed finishes. The one pictured here is my personal favorite, though it’s not an easy selection—in fact, I love a ring for every finger for ultimate textural jewelry play.
