Brown is the color of the season—my season, at least, though I suspect others may echo this sentiment. I need not look further than my closet’s new additions for confirmation: a growing selection of dresses, tops, sweatshirts, and yoga pants (I’m still pandemic-dressing, and postpartum at that) in shades of chocolate, camel, khaki, and cream.
And still I want more. Luckily, as if by sheer coincidence or fate, the jewelry world seemed to know that.
I was scrolling through my Instagram feed when I came across the most beautiful brown jewel I’ve seen in ages. I don’t often linger on photos—as of late I’ve been doing zombie-like scrolling, up with an infant in the middle of the night—but for a moment, this masterpiece by Leen Heyne stopped the world for me.
The spellbinding ring is a collaboration between Dutch jewelry-maker Leen Heyne and Cate Claus of Thesis, who is partnering with Heyne on a curated collection. This ring is just one in the collection, but it makes its introduction with gusto.
The absolutely astonishing center stone is a 5.12 ct. reclaimed and recut peachy brown diamond. The gem, which was recut by Randy Poli of Poli Trading Co., began as a vintage radiant before being transformed into the round-cornered step-cut stunner you see now.
The setting, crafted by Heyne in a silky rose gold, sets the stage for a beautiful ballet, as it twists and turns before sweetly kissing its champagne centerpiece. The ring is altogether graceful and powerful, not unlike a ballerina itself.
The design is such an incredible example of a sensational brown gemstone situated perfectly in complementing rose gold—the whole thing feels magical.
The collaboration in its entirety (including this ring) will make its debut at the Thesis Gems & Cocktails trunk show, which will be held Dec. 4–5 in San Francisco. Viewing will be by appointment only; those interested can visit thesisgems.com.
