Britt’s Pick: Lauren K’s Remi Heart Necklace

The layout of diamonds in different shapes on this Lauren K heart pendant brings to mind the pieces of chocolate in a boxed assortment, like those boxes of Russell Stover chocolates that pack store shelves during Valentine’s season.

When I was a child, my mom would get a Russell Stover box from someone at work every year—and every year she’d “hide” it in the same place: on top of the refrigerator.

Of course it wasn’t hidden to me, and my chocolate-loving 7-year-old hands would somehow find their way to the top of that fridge. Sneakily sampling a bite from each chocolate in the box—a treasure trove waiting to be discovered—I would cringe at the maple nut butters, the pecan delights, the almond clusters, placing them half-eaten back in the box, but make others (orange, raspberry, and coconut creams, caramel, and peanut butter) disappear completely. Imagine my mother’s surprise when she went to indulge in a chocolate and would open the box to find it in such a state.

I still “sneak” chocolates. Willpower left at home, I might come back from grocery shopping with a box, visiting it from time to time for a single bite of one of the flavors I like best. When it comes to me and chocolate boxes, all decorum goes out the window.

But I’ll skip the inexpensive chocolates this year in favor of something that is not only a million times better but permanently delicious, and that won’t send my blood sugar through the roof (a racing heart may still apply).
