Tucked away in a beautifully discreet studio in the historic center of Milan, Centro Storico, Elva Fine Jewelry offers a treasure trove of gemstone jewels that, when combined, look like pieces of candy in a sweets shop. Gemmy varieties of tourmaline, garnet, aquamarine, sapphire, amethyst, and more get their due within gorgeously designed, Italian-made settings by Elva.
I first learned about the brand when the mother-daughter duo who created it was scheduled to appear at this past summer’s Melee the Show in New York, and one particular ring popped up throughout the event’s marketing.
It was the ring pictured here, a handcrafted beauty in satin-finished 18k yellow gold. It boasts one of my favorite shades of green, thanks to a glossy green tourmaline cabochon center, with gloriously celebrated inclusions that make it feel like an unearthed treasure of the past. The design is dubbed the Petite Margot, though that tourmaline weighs a not-petite 7.04 cts.
The stone was enough to have me locked in, but its satiny gold setting, a beautiful matte creation with scalloped edges, is a hero. A modern interpretation of classical Italian decorative forms, it reminds me of a small picture frame, the kind I’ve been wish-listing and hunting for so furiously on Etsy—to do what with, I don’t yet know.
What I do know is this is a ring that should be worn for lifetimes, a proper ode to October’s other birthstone, ideal for those born this month and lovers of green gems alike.
For those enamored with the setting, Elva offers the Petite Margot with a range of other gemstones (the gray moonstone is a hauntingly romantic choice that feels apt for spooky season, while the aquamarine brings to mind a calm, foggy day at sea).
Imagine collecting them all, one to fit every whim and vibe, like interchangeable mood rings. If wishes were fishes? I’d trade them all for a Petite Margot.
