It is now that time of year when anything and everything is viewed through holiday goggles. Styles in brightly hued pinks and greens, once considered the epitome of spring, are repurposed in my mind as a cheerful take on Christmas’ signature colors. That rich yellow of fall translates to the gold and silver of festive tinsel.
The same is true for these earrings from jewelry designer Brooke Gregson‘s Talisman collection. In the richest, deepest shades of forest and maroon, I at once believe these to possess the perfect amount of autumnal drama. Given that the holidays are upon us, though, I don my festive goggles (I imagine they look like Iris Apfel glasses adorned with Christmas lights) and see something new. Perhaps these are more like wreaths, with a decorative, Art Deco spin—the kind of decor you’d see at only the swankiest buildings in New York City, the kind that makes you feel instantly in the spirit.
Gregson’s hand-engraved and enameled surfaces look like something else to me, too. The round shape paired with a series of grooved lines resembles that of a record, which is perfect for me since listening to records at Christmas is the epitome—or at the very least, one vital aspect—of the holidays.
You may know Gregson for her famous Astrology necklaces (I have had one on my own personal wish list for a number of years, and admittedly fan-girled out a bit when I realized the very same designer will be showing at JCK Tucson). But her one-of-a-kind pieces, with hand-selected gemstones and next-level detail—like the earrings featured here—are equally (or beyond!) exquisite. With a studio each in Venice, Calif., and London, two kinds of cool converge in these creations that prove irresistible and hard to forget.
While this particular pair of earrings has sold, they’re an excellent example of what the designer has to offer—and truly just the tip of a towering collection of jewels.
