It was Keira Knightley’s voice that popped into my head when I first encountered this show-stopping jewel from VTse. “Goes with your black heart,” her Pirates of the Caribbean character Elizabeth Swann says to Captain Barbossa, just before she is forced to walk the plank. I haven’t seen that film in something like 10 years. I didn’t even realize I knew any lines from that movie. The mind—MY mind—sometimes works in the strangest ways.

For whatever reason I’ve made this association (probably because I can always find a way to relate anything to Disney, even subconsciously), seeing this piece in Victoria Tse’s showcase felt even more like discovering a treasure than it already, truly is. This would be that folklore-fueled amulet in an adventure movie, the one that people are driven absolutely mad trying to procure.

Worth it. At more than 111 carats, the black diamond heart positively glistens. Mind you, I picked this out from a showcase bursting with INSANE diamond jewels—a green diamond ring, incredible mega-high-carat bracelets, celebrity-status engagement rings. But this one called out to me, like the heart of the ocean. And there is your Titanic reference, movie buffs.

I was most drawn to the deep dark surface of the glossy black diamond, outlined in pavé diamonds, a never-ending blackness that stares back at you. But there’s more to this piece than meets the eye.

Flip it over, and a web of pavé diamond lines blankets the stone, crisscrossing over it like a sugary frosting drizzle sweetening a pastry. Great, now I’m hungry.

I had an inkling that one of my favorite jewels encountered at Luxury would be found at VTse. I love being right. What I love more, though, is VTse’s consistency—there’s always something to go nuts for.
